However, the name in general is made out of two elements. In Russian tales, she is a hag that flies around on a mortar, sweeping her tracks with a broom.

He home is a log cabin with no windows or doors, and it moves around on a pair of dancing chicken legs. Sometimes, her house will also have a fence made out human teeth and bones. Her nose is so long that it rattles against her ceiling when she sleeps.

Whenever she is near, a cold and wild wind begins to blow. All of the trees crack and groan, leaves twirling through the air. In addition to this, spirits may often accompany her, shrieking and wailing. Baba Yaga guards the fountain of the Waters of Life and of Death. She rules over the elements, and she has three faithful servants.

These are the White, Red and Dark Horsemen. She is a wild nature spirit that brings wisdom and death. In spite of this, she has no power over the blessed of heart. Those people have the protection of love and virtue. In certain stories, Babushka Baba Yaga helps people in their quests if they are nice to her.

Seeking her aid is a dangerous act, which requires proper preparation and purity of spirit.
