Instructions for installing the driver manually are at the end of this document. Follow these steps to check for the latest driver updates for your printer using the HP website.
Turn on the printer. If your printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the cable from the printer. The software installation prompts you to connect the cable if needed.
The software results page for your printer displays with the default operating system selected. If you need to change the operating system, click Change, select your version, and then click Change.
Under the Driver heading, click Download next to the software package you want to install. Save the file to your computer. Locate and then open the file to start the installation process. The typical installation is recommended for most users. If no instructions appear on your screen, run the setup. Click Start. Select Run. Click OK. From the menu choices, select Install Printer, as shown in Figure 1. Click Next. In the Setup Type window, choose Typical.
If you are connected over a network, select the type of network you are using. In the Type of Applications window, select the types of application software that you will use. Select all that apply.
The driver installation program begins. Click Next to continue. A list of helpful instructions will appear on your screen and will remain there during the installation process. Refer to these instructions to answer questions that may arise. After a few moments the Add Printer Wizard window will open.
Network Connection Type the network path or queue name of your printer. Select No. Select whether you want your Windows-based programs to use this printer as the default printer, then click Next. Click Finish to complete the installation. When the installation is complete, you can register the printer and view the documentation. Click Finish to exit the printer setup program. You do not need to select the manufacturer and printer from the lists.
Select your printer from the list, and click Next. Select the port to which your printer is connected, then click Next. Type a name for your printer, or use the name supplied by the Install Printer Wizard. Also select whether or not you want this printer to be the default printer for Windows-based programs.
Click Finish. Installation begins. When installation is complete, you can register the printer and view the documentation.
Select Finish to exit the printer setup program. This procedure is recommended for system administrators. From the menu choices, select Install Printer, as shown in Figure 2. In the Setup Type window, select Custom. If you are connected over a network, select the type of network you are using, and click Next. In the Select Components window, select the components you want to install. Network connection When the Add Printer Wizard dialog box opens, enter the network path or queue name of your printer.
Select your printer from the list and click Next. Windows and NT 4. If you are a system administrator, click here to go to the section on custom installation for Windows and NT 4. From the menu choices, select Install Printer, as shown in Figure 3. After a few moments, the Add Printer Wizard window will open. Network connection In the Connect to Printer window, select your printer from the list.
Select whether you want your Windows-based programs to use this as the default printer. Direct connection Select the port to which your printer is connected. Click Have Disk. Select your printer from the list. Choose whether this printer will be shared with other network users. If you choose sharing, give the printer a share name and select the operating system from the list. Choose whether you want to print a test page. Printing a test page is recommended.
Custom installation for Windows and NT 4. From the menu choices, select Install Printer, as shown in Figure 4. Manual driver installation If you cannot or prefer not to use the standard installation process, you can install the driver from the CD-ROM by following these steps: note: If the output you send to the printer will go directly to the printer by network without being stored on another computer, you must create a network port before installing the driver consult your network documentation or network administrator.
Click Start, Settings, and then Printers to open the Printers dialog box. We recommend that you do not use the New Driver button in the Printer Properties dialog box to install or upgrade this driver. Follow the steps displayed on your screen. Below are some questions that you may be requested to answer, depending on your system configuration. How is this printer attached to your computer? Select: Local Printer if the output you send to the printer will go directly to the printer by cable or network without being stored on another computer.
Network Printer if you will send output to the printer via another computer. In this case, all settings for the printer are managed by a printer server that has been set up by an administrator. Would you like to keep the existing driver or use the new one? Select Replace Existing Driver. If you are installing files for a new version and you see this question, we recommend replacing the existing driver.
We recommend that you select No.
