I thought it looked like a fun little read when I saw it in the mythology section, so I picked it up several years ago. Why regret it when I enjoyed it? I could have enjoyed MORE of it. You see, I found out much later that Monkey is an abridged version of Journey to the West. This is one of the four classic Chinese novels. Still, I can recommend this book pretty enthusiastically to some people at there.

He is just called Tripitaka in many English versions of the story. In return, the disciples will receive enlightenment and forgiveness for their sins once the journey is done. He is born on Flower Fruit Mountain from a stone egg that forms from an ancient rock created by the coupling of Heaven and Earth. He first distinguishes himself by bravely entering the Water Curtain Cave on the mountain; for this feat, his monkey tribe gives him the title of "Handsome Monkey King".
